Wiener Staatsballett: 4 / Mahler live With works by: Franz Liszt (1811-1886), Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) 4 / Live double bill ballet show: Live choreographed by Hans van Manen. Music by Liszt. Stars dancers Olga Esina and Marcos Menha. Features pianist Shino Takizawa and Henk van Dijk as cameraman (a part in the show). 4 choreographed by Martin Schl?pfer. Music from Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 is conducted by Axel Kober with the Orchester der Wiener Staatsoper and soprano Sl?vka Z?me?n?kov?. Live—an old but ground-breaking show dating back to 1979—is the first number. Live is considered an icon of the Dutch National Ballet. This was the first time Live has been performed by another company. Thus it becomes a kind of warm up for Schl?pfer’s future career in Vienna. 2 dancers, a pianist, and a cameraman appear amidst bold photo projections and (for the video anyway) actual locations in the opera house. Hans van Manen created the cameraman role for Henk van Dijk; now van Dijk shows up to perform again as cameraman. 4 is a more formal piece with music from Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. This is a big piece to big music. It gives Schl?pfer a chance to keep a lot of his new dancers happy by giving them stage time. Laufzeit: 101 Min.
